Recently formed club to start in Tier 5
Phoenix club Bangor 1876 have been told that they will compete in the Gwynedd League next season following consultation with the Football Association of Wales and The Supporters’ Trust.
The club launched in April this year as a fan-owned organisation in an attempt protect football in the city after supporters expressed concerns over the running and long-term security of Bangor City FC.
A statement released today confirming that they will now start in Tier 5 of the domestic system.
Speaking on behalf of the Supporters’ Trust, Einion Williams said: “This is excellent news for everybody connected with the Supporters’ Trust, CPD Bangor 1876 FC and especially its supporters.”
“I am delighted for everyone involved and would especially like the thank the FAW for their cooperating during the application process. I would also like to record my gratitude to the Supporters” Trust committee for all their hard work over the past few weeks and months.
“The FAW decision allows the club the opportunity to build a solid base for a supporter-owned, inclusive and family friendly to serve the City of Bangor and wider community.
“Our goal is to provide a club that will provide opportunity to the footballing talent in the area and a club that the community can be genuinely proud to be involved with and support.”
The club will play out of Bangor University’s Treborth sports facility for the coming season.
