STM Sports edge into League Cup semi-finals

STM Sports recorded the shock of the round in the Nathaniel MG Cup quarter-final last night after eliminating Cymru Premier side Newtown on penalties.

STM Sports led twice at Latham Park with Benjamin Ahmun putting the St Mellons outfit ahead after just six minutes. Calum Bateman restored their lead with a second half penalty after Nick Rushton had fired Newtown level, Joe Kenton again replying for the hosts to secure a 2-2 draw in regular time.

The Cymru South side advanced 4-3 in the preceding shootout after Newtown’s Craig Williams and Jack Kelly both missed.

Aberystwyth added to Carmarthen’s woes winning 3-0 at Richmond Park in the all-Cymru South tie of the round.

Bala Town proved too strong for runaway Cymru North leaders Prestatyn after Lassana Mendes fired the Lakesiders into the last four with an 89th minute winner.

Prestatyn forged an early lead through James Stead in the second minute which remained intact until Louis Robles struck midway through the second half.

Rookie Connor Harwood opened the scoring at the Deeside Stadium as Connah’s Quay saw off Flint Town United, winning 4-1 with the Nomads netting twice in the closing stages to book their spot into the semi-final draw which takes place this evening.
